I had a 98' Bayliner I did same exact thing. I was able to peel carpet back and cut box frames as close to the bottom as possible. Installed a piece of 3/4" marine plywood as a new base to mount the new pedestal and seat to. By keeping a piece of the old frame attached made it easy having a flat piece to mount to. It opened up a lot of room in that boat.
