Made it to Brownlee yesterday. Water is still low, but rising. We launched at Woodhead, fished the northern end with little success, then headed south. Fishing was sporadic for crappie, but we did find groups of fish that you were able to pull decent numbers out of. Big schools suspended at the mouths of coves in 30-40 feet, with smaller more active schools suspended at 15 feet. Seems like fish are just now staging to move in and spawn. All of the fish we caught were caught on rock structure that bordered gravel shoreline. Cast towards the shore, let sink and retrieve slowly. Very light bite. We kept around 40, not one was less than 11 inches, with the bulk of them being 12.5, and a few 13-14 inch fish thrown in.
I know there has been a decrease in the number of reports and the detail on here and other places (Facebook), but I’m sort of scratching my head as to why. Growing up Brownlee and Owyhee were far more crowded than anytime in the last ten years when reports on social media and the like have taken off. I understand trying to keep things quiet, but large SW Idaho reservoirs have been popular for decades, and even if you share a report, those who go out still have to make an effort to find fish that are willing to bite. Anyway, hope this report serves someone well! Good luck. Also, water is pretty stained, chartreuse colored jigs outperformed others tenfold.
