Making your own a cast net
#5
Good question.

My goal is to catch carp and chubs which are 4-8 inches in length or more. It will still be effective for catching fat little carp 2-3 inches long. Smaller than that will squirt through.

My friend has a couple nets with 1/4 inch webbing and it catches little guys very well, so I can see that they are effective.

Making a net with 1/4 webbing would like knitting a very large doily. It would have over 150,000 knots. My 3/4 web will have about 22,000 knots. I can't even imagine trying to weave a net like that. lol

I wanted to make something of my own, so I picked a mesh size that was still simple enough to manage and I could complete in the next couple months in my spare time.

Even 3/4 inch is fairly small for a hand made net. Most guys I see on youtube are making nets using large web for mullet. Like 1.5 or 2 inch on the square.

I want to make a 1/4 or 3/8 inch net, but I will make it using the panel method. That's where you buy the mesh and cut large triangles and then tie the panels together with special mending knots.
