Birch Creek Report
#5
I was up there around the first of the year and it was pretty slow. Three of us fished from about 9am until dark, and managed 13 fish. I was fortunate to be on the lucky hole for the morning bite...8 of our fish came out of that hole including the largest, a 20" fat rainbow. So not counting that one lucky hole we only caught 5 fish in a combined 20+ hours of fishing. The fish were mostly right on the bottom in 10-15 feet of water. I caught 5 of my fish on a chartreuse 3" gulp minnow but also caught a couple on a 2.5" chartreuse tube jig tipped with chub meat. They wanted a lot of jigging action and were usually taking it on a slow drop after some brisk jigging. I will also add that once the action slowed down we went exploring and drilled holes all over the place. It was just very slow after the morning bite. I think we landed 1 or 2 fish after 12:00 noon.
