Well, I was just getting ready to leave and I did not want to get into how I take care of warm water fish vs cold water fish but since I'm back, I'll go into it now. Because cold water fish do not survive well in a live well and the longer they sit in water the worse it gets, I put them on ice asap. Warm water fish can survive well in a live well for hours, as long as the water is circulated with lake water on a regular bases. If I have a long trip home, you bet I'll put them on ice but I live close to where I catch most of my walleye, so I see no need and I can't say I've ever had a walleye or any other warm water fish go mushy or taste bad doing this. If I was fishing at a lake where I'd be driving an hour or more to get back, that is where I feel any fish should be iced but that's me, everyone takes care of fish with what method works for them and that method has work well for me for a lot of years.
