some advice I was given when first learning to back a trailer was: follow the trailer.
I think that most issues with backing come from the driver thinking too much: "Where is my hand", "which way do I turn the wheel", etc. I don't think any of those things. I simply follow my trailer. If my trailer starts to veer off-course, I follow it to straighten it out.
