Brad, if you don't mind the drive Fish Lake is safe, gorgeous, and LOADED with Perch but only 7-8" long. Fish the weed line in about 16' water and fill a bucket. Fish Lake is a real lake and not a reservoir and therefore does not have fluctuating water levels to create soft edges as easily.
Pick a day with sun and no wind and make a day of it, you won't regret it!
