[#0000FF]Most predators in Utah Lake do better when they can feed by sight. But those same predators almost all have sensitive lateral lines and many have good night vision. So a bit of murky water may slow them down but it will not stop them.
"Cleaner water"? By whose definition? During the past few years of low water levels the average clarity of the water had been worse than during higher water years. Removing carp HELPS...but carp removal alone does not clear up the water. It is going to take getting rid of a lot more carp and reestablishing a lot of aquatic vegetation to help overcome the effects of 5 foot wind waves in 6 feet of water...muddy water-wise.
I think the pike have been successful because the lack of protective cover for smaller species has made it easier for them to find food. But once the water levels increase and flood shoreline brush and vegetation, there will be more cover for the prey. However, the water should clear up a bit for sight feeders like pike.
I know from seeing several lakes "go to pike" around the country that once they establish a good foothold you will not get rid of them in any way other than poisoning. Because of the June suckers poisoning is not an option.
