What do you consider a good fishing trip?

This is a good question and thread.

I agree with others that it is not essential for me to catch fish. However, I do want to see fish being caught. I don't mind wandering the bank turning over stones, etc., if other people in my group are getting fish. I am also happy to watch strangers catch fish--for example if we are find ourselves in a space with limited water. My experience is that most people are the same way. I've offered to leave a hole if someone else was watching me play a fish only to be told that they were just curious how I was doing.

I also really like learning new things. Some of my most memorable trips have been to new places, or using new techniques. If I can catch just a few fish doing something new or in a new location, I feel like that adds to future resources.

One thing I don't like is losing good fish do to errors or equipment failure. I also don't like going back to a place and finding that it is not as good as it had been in the past. Those are Sad moments.
