[cool], annual trip on yellowstone lake, 28 lakers to take home, over 200 large cutthroat caught and released. Favorite place for opening day!

Awesome report. I love Yellowstone! And though I feel like I've fished a lot of that park, I've yet to fish Yellowstone Lake (principally because I don't have a boat yet). Your post has motivated me to give it a try sometime around the opener. I have a canoe and float tubes. Is it safe to fish in the early morning with these? I assume conditions can get dicey in the afternoon and evening similar to other lakes (Shoshone and Lewis)? [signature]

Thanks and yes, very doable in the early AM. That's how I fished it the first 8 years. Stayed close to shore line in the west thumb. It's pretty good the first three to four weeks after it opens. Good luck if you go! Gold spoons/spinners were the best. [signature]

Thanks for the report. Are they shallow enough to cast for them from shore? Thanks, Bill [signature]
