I'm not familiar with the ice conditions on Flaming Gorge. We are thinking of going around the Manila or Dutch John area for the BURBOT BASH this year. Do you think there will be thick ice on it at that time in those areas? It starts February 1st....We just do not want to get there and not have ice to fish on.
Thanks for any information or opinions you can give me on it!

I have been up there the last three years and I don't ever recall any ice on the Utah side. The backs of the bays by Anvill, haystack and holmes crossing have been frozen but the main channel was still wide open. I would recommend a boat if you want to fish the Utah side.

Me and my friends are headed up to for the first time. Everyone we talk to said the Utah side never freezes. Wyoming should be good to go. It has been really cold so far this winter.

Interesting, because I have fished the Utah side from the ice on more than one occasion. It doesn't always freeze but it is not that uncommon.

Me too.
The back reaches of Lucerne Bay are great for thick ice and fat 'bows! Now the ever present burbot...
