You can catch all the mudcats in the world out of there with worm.

I live in Benson and would occasionally run the kids over to the river by the chapel and throw worms. Hook size probably 4's. We'd catch bullheads rapidly, and occasionally pull out a 2-3 pound carp.

Good luck. I keep meaning to get the boat reassembled and run over to the Benson Marina, but can't find the time.
Just have to settle for casting on my puddle-of-a-pond out back to get my fill. Here's one from last night just before dark, though. [signature]

Took a float up there on Tuesday. Water's moving pretty good - lil' lectric barely got me past the bridge. No bites, lots of tangles [crazy] nice sunshine, LOTS of birds.
I did have some carp meat, dragged worm-rigs, and pitched plastics. Tried to work the shallows and reeds. When I went back past the bridge a family was there, and the daughter hollers out "that's 15" - they were hauling on the bitty mudcats. Sounds like they got a couple nicer ones. That's one of my goals this year, catch something other that a cat out of Cutler, and caught carp for bait (and fun). Nice bass. Is that a smallie (in the mouth)?

The pond is on my own land (just a tiny little thing, maybe 1/3 acre) and the fish is a largemouth - but because it was almost at sunset, you can't see the details of the fish very well.
Most of my fish are in the 3-8" range (largemouth, smallmouth, green sunfish, bluegill, and perch) - but there are about 15-20 fish in here that are a bit more worthwhile to hook up with. [signature] |
