So I'm in the holiday shopping mood and was curious what fishing store you all like the most.
Does not matter why you like the store just thought it would be interesting to hear some opinions
As far as looks go I believe Cabelas takes the cake as not many places you go have "Mountains" with wildlife all over them. Stuffed or not.
For ease and closeness I like Sportsmans wharehouse or Mickey Finns
But if I'm going for experience and information and suggestions for real life experience I go to Anglers Den in Roy.
Was curious does anyone know who has the best prices? Between Anglers Den and Sportsmans? They are within three blocks of each other so I was wondering which had better prices on average...
Well ya what do you think?

I have found that Anglers Den will work with you on the price of a major purchase. They are very fair in this reguard. I just bought a Strikemaster Electrice Auger from them. They didnt have it in stock, so they ordered it and had it for me in 3 days..Plus there price was a bit lower than Cabelas.[cool]

Anglers Den is good great service but im in the south end of the slc valley and driving to Roy is not cost effective.
Cabelas usually has the items in stock but there way over priced and depending on the day you got wait 10 or 15 minutes just to check out.
Sportmans has competitive prices but usually never has items in stock
Fishtech is good there prices are competitive good overall service I did get ignored one day though I ask for help the the guy walked right by me but one time out of a dozen or so is not bad
Fishwest is in sandy I dont know if they have a brick & mortar but I have purchased things from them online
WJ outlet is good lots cheap waders
But now since HB141 I quit buying locally if the state doesnt give a s!@# about anglers why should I go out of my way to generate local tax dollars so I buy Online ... Madisen River Fly Co, Amazon, Anglers Dream ect ect..

I get most of my fly tying supplies from Anglers Den.
Their prices are a bit higher than Sportsman's but they usually have what I want, in stock.
The people at Anglers are very knowledgeable and friendly.
I try to shop their as much as I can. We need to have these smaller shops around, to keep the bigger stores competitive.

I personally love a good local shop, they always seem to be the most in touch with having their selection really geared towards the local waters and I can usually find very specific items there that I cannot find at a larger outlet. I also really like to spend my money with someone that is tied to the community.
Traditionally I've always been a sportsmans guy, but their lack of stock is really starting to wear me thin.
Cabela's has never claimed to be the lowest price. Their Cabela's brand stuff is always top quality and their customer service is unmatched. I buy from Cabela's when I purchase something that I'm worried I might have to return or echange. Although my last round of online orders has been a fiasco (credit still hasn't shown on my CC). I'm surprised the Lehi store hasn't come around a little more to stocking item that are more Utah specific, but online they've got everything you want, except being tax free.

As a former "insider" I would say the "Cabela's branded" stuff isn't usually quality. It's usually a cheap Chines knockoff of some reputable product, which will get most of us by. Plus, the customer ends up paying for those giant destination stores with their mountains of mounted animals. With that said, their customer service can't be beat.
Local mom-and-pop places all the way.

Fish Tech, hands down. Byron, Mickey and Jim are the gentlemen of the tackle world.

Sportsmans, and Cabelas definatly fill a need and I buy things from both. But I think that Fish Tech and Anglers Den are invaluable to our local fishermen and I buy 90% of my tackle from them. Even if I pay a little more I usualy leave with some info or tip that was well worth the extra money spent.

Don't forget about the shops that fought hard for our rights during the process. Fish Tech and Western Rivers worked their tails off for the average angler during the last legislative session. William Joseph was a great help as well.
There are others, but those are the two who, in my opinion, did their part to fight for the local angler. In return, I feel really good about spending my dollars at their shops when I need to purchase something.

I got to agree with TS30.
Not supporting local shops because of the messed up laws is just adding insult to injury.
I stood between Byron and Schmidt on the steps of the Capital...they don't care for this unconstitutional law either.
Plus there is no shipping charge...[ ]

being a cache valley resident, I will have to chime in and say round rocks fly fishing shop and custom sports (a little place in N Logan) are superb. both offer great service and alot of knowledge (I've noticed the smaller the store the better the local knowledge).

My favorite fishing store is the one with the best price and has stuff in stock. I usually don't need help from the guys in the store, unless it is to find a product. I buy a lot of stuff online these days anyways.

I definitely like Roundrocks, and their selection has gotten a lot better since management changed around a bit. I'm glad they were able to make it, I was going to pissed if that lame excuse for a fly shop at Walmart actually pushed them out of business. I need to check out Custom Sports, I keep hearing about them, but then I forget to go and look.
Overall I spend the majority of my money online though. I know it's nice to buy locally, but we're pretty limited in Cache, and it's nice to pay half or even less of retail for items.

I don't think you have to worry about wal-mart beating round rocks. I never see anyone in there, customers or employees. I just can't say enough about what a great place Custom Sports is, they are super knowledgeable and pay attention to every customer that comes in.

I give kudos to Fish Tech, Western Rivers and any of the outfitters who fought diligently to squash HB141.
But.... What about the Local Outfitters who quietly supported HB141 ? Wouldn't want to ruin there exclusive access for there guides now would we. LOL
I use to solely buy locally just for the reason I wanted to generate local tax dollars but with HB141 and all the other BS my money going else were. Ill still buy a Utah fishing license only cause of the legal reason but until HB141 is overturned my tax dollars wont go to a state support restrictive river access
