LCS Stripping Apron on Fish Cat 4= A waste?

I just invested in a Fish Cat 4! Yes I know, hundreds of you on this board also have one and I'm late to the game lol. I'll update my avatar as soon as I float the new boat this week in San Diego. I'm excited for the upgrade namely for the free space in front for reeling/casting, entering/exiting my tube, and of course mostly for bringing in those lunker! My question: Is the LCS Stripping Apron a complete waste or what? I am debating on attaching it and I keep thinking that it will be more of a pain than anything. It will limit my free space in front of me and the only benefit it gives is a nice clean 'working space' for attaching lures/tying knots etc. But come on, I think I could probably just do that off to the side over one of the pockets on top of one of my small plano hard boxes or on top of my finesse binder bag? What you need is a TD sushi board. Get a lid off of a storage box and use some PVC to make it solid. They work great. Ron

You sound like a fly fisher when you mention not needing one.
I haven't used one for years. But, I am starting to use one again. Mine is more like the LCS you have. The mesh so they is no standing water, and it isn't rigid.
No they don't get in the way, and are heaven sent when you accidentally drop something.

That LCS looks like a cool apron with it being raised. I bought a Venture Outdoors because of the plastic lip all the way around to hold the shape.

Try it a few times and then decide.

[#0000ff]Some folks like having an apron for helping to control fish in your lap, messing with tackle and/or holding fly line...their original purpose. As mentioned by other posters, I use a rigid apron (sushi board). I like a sturdy platform for rasslin' with fish (no spines in the waders...or anatomy). It is also great when you need to work on tackle, cut bait, etc.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]A compromise is to carry a small plastic container lid tucked beside you and bring it out on your lap if you need something to work on.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Part of the problem of rigging anything besides the factory aprons is that Outcast has also eliminated the D rings on the front of the air chambers that are handy for attaching other types of aprons.[/#0000ff]

TD, If you look at the "drink holders" or what ever they are in the front of my pockets. You can see I have added gromets to them. Mine does not have D rings in front either. Ron

[cool][#0000ff]More than one way to skin a cat...or pimp a Fish Cat. Creativity and a bit of skill with tools and PVC can conquer almost any problem...except marriage.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The D rings are also missing on later model Fat Cats. I have worked around that by using extensions of PVC...from the 2"X2" wood inserts in the front of the pockets.[/#0000ff]

Lookimng at Bekkis FC4 I can see that using the snap on carabiners would work as well. They come in different sizes and would attach niceley to the drink/bait holder area in front of the pockets.[cool] Would be great for attaching a sushi type board.
