Anyone have any recent reports for Yankee Meadow? I'm headed that direction this weekend and wouldn't mind stopping there if it's any good. THANKS!

The road is open and the ice is off. Don't know how the fishing has been lately.

Walk over on the east side by the dam in the "stumps" and throw some jigs for some scrappy brook trout.

Well, I have to say fishing at Yankee Meadow was one of the strangest fishing experiences I have ever had. It was a beautiful day, and the lake is BEAUTIFUL, but I saw some ODD things. There were a couple of guys over by the inlet (where the fish are spawning) trying to snag some fish by dragging their hooks through the inlet, saw a few guys fishing with the HUGE marshmallows (not sure there's a fish big enough to even eat that in there) and last but not least........I saw a man fishing in a SUIT!!! Yes, a black suit and some nice shiny black shoes and a tie! WTH! I did manage to land 1 fish with the fly rod, looked like a planter, not that pretty, but hey, a fish is a fish right?!?! Better luck next time I hope (if there is a next time).

It was worse than a weird dream! And fish and game was there ALL day......yet did nothing (about the snagging fish and the 15 year olds taking pulls off the wiskey bottle). It was SO ODD!

What makes you think they were snagging fish?

Brook trout spawn in the fall....

I don't "think" they were snagging fish.....I watched them snagging fish. Running a treble hook (with NO bait on it) through a bunch of spawning fish is snagging fish. Correct me if i'm wrong?!?!

p.s......didn't catch any brookies. Only rainbows (which spawn in the spring). Would have loved it if the fishing was better. Maybe next time.

So did you say something to the CO? If not then why get upset.
PS. Red Creek is better fishing for wild bows if you don't mind combat fishing. [signature]

cutthroat spawn in the spring. There are cutthroat in Yankee. The cutthroat are the reason why the "spawning channel" was constructed at Yankee....
chickscanfish -- If a CO were up there, and if another angler watched this happen, then why wouldn't the CO have also watched it happen? The CO certainly knows about the inlet, and spawning fish. Any "action" at the inlet would have been noticed, and the CO certainly would have paid some attention. So....did you speak with the CO? Do you know if the CO spoke with the accused snaggers? Did you get any photographic evidence of said snagging? Did you speak with the supposed snaggers? Did you get a license plate number? Did you call the poaching hotline printed on the back of your fishing license? Did you do ANYTHING to stop the snagging? Or, do you just want to bitch about it? Maybe the rest of us should be upset with YOU! [signature]

Mostly just want to "bitch about it".....and YES I did say something. Next time i'll bring your checklist of questions. I'm assuming the CO had a lot on his plate since it was Memorial weekend and the lake was pretty busy, and NO i'm not sure if he saw them, and NO I didn't snap pictures of them. I felt I did my part by telling the guys that they're not allowed to snag fish. Maybe that's not enough? Mostly was posting about it in hopes that people would read it (that don't know not to snag fish) and make some changes.
