Getting anxious to get back out there!!

Well, the fishin' bug has bitten me hard again as it normally does EVERY Spring! I am getting all my gear ready to start hitting Upper Otay at the end of this month. I like to wait until the water temp is around 60 degress and the bass are getting a bit more active. Looking forward to it:o)

Otay, is one of the lakes that I would like to try. It is like

Peter: Upper AND Lower Otay have been good to me the past couple of years. I have only fished Lower Otay from a small kayak/canoe or full sized bass boat. I need to try it from my H3! Upper Otay on the other hand, is a float tube only lake and has produced a lot of bass for me last year and the year before when I started fishing from my float tube/pontube as we call the H3:o) Well worth the drive once the water temp gets over 65 and the bass really get active! Upper Otay is "catch and release" only - NO live bait and you must use barbless hooks but there are a LOT of BIG bass in there. I have spoken with most of the guys and gals who fish UO and have heard stories of many +10 pounders being caught. One older guy told me he caught an 18+ pounder several years ago in the area near the dam wall where I normally fish. Once I got the "hang" of fishing from my pontube down, I started averaging 3 - 4 bass caught per trip which usually was between 4 - 6 hours on the water. Costs $8.00 a day to fish and of course a valid CA fishing license. Easy access to UO IF the access road is open. Otherwise you must trek up and down a BIG hill/road which is about 1/4 mile long to get to the isolated lake. UO is on the SMALL side and I think I could easily get from one side to the other in about 10 minutes IF the wind was calm. Numerous reeds and stuff surround the shoreline and I have caught most of my bass within 5 feet of the shoreline! Let me know IF you ever decide to fish UO and maybe I can meet you there. Lake is only open Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday and most Monday HOLIDAYS for fishing. One FUN lake to fish I quarantee it!!

Yep, ANXIOUS here too... only, we've still got 8"-10" of ice on most of the lakes/ponds. We're JUST NOW seeing SOME open water around timber, creeks, etc. We're (in Omaha, NE) still about a month away for wide-spread open water. [:/] [signature]

Pulled the toon out today and started working on getting the new additions on it. Will have it ready tomorrow to go out and start playing in the water.[cool]

I coated the inside of the toon where the hole is with aqua seal. It worked nicely. Tomorrow I will inflate it and see how it looks from the outside and put a coat over the patch as well. I took it to sugarhouse awning. They put a nice patch on it just no glue so I am adding the aqua seal. I also took the power float in and had repaired as well. Looks great. I will post pics tomorrow of what I got going. Now to get another battery and a motor for mamatrout. Looking at a minn kota 30 for her. The 34 is only $10 more though.[:/] Hmmmmmm.......

That sounds great!!! My work is super busy right now (which is great) but it should slow down aroud end of May. I think that maybe a good time to go. It would be great if the road was open so I dont have to drag my float tube over the hill. There is also one more guy (Scott) that likes to fish Otay as well and does really good.
