I'm Out (Knolls Trip)
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Hey Utah folks. I'm afraid I am not going to make the floatilla at the Knolls tomorrow. Latest weather forecast is a front moving through today, lots of north wind all day to day and also tomorrow. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have fished Utah Lake for many years and I can assure you that tubing conditions will be nasty and the fishing will be lousy.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Always fun to get social and meet new folks, but I really don't care to waste the time (and gas money) on a fishing trip that is almost guaranteed to be a bust.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sorry.[/#0000ff]

I can understand that. I am not a lousy weather fan myself.

Weather wise....
What day or days do u do your best fishings?
I do pick over cast days and light winds or light rains early mornings and late afternoons. I do pass up those too much winds or cloudless days unless I'm after those bluegills which is too easy for me to catch in any weather....

[#500000]Dang it all, the wind sure has a way spoiling things, especially for tubers. Thanks for posting that BEFORE I spent the day preparing. Oh well, I had a great time yesterday fishing Strawberry with Kentofnsl and his grandson so now I'll just have to work Monday instead of fishing again. Dang it all. [:p] I really wouldn't like getting blown across Utah Lake in a windstorm. That would just spoil my whole day.[/#500000]

[cool][#0000ff]The best time to go fishing is whenever you can get away. But, there are a few personal guidelines I go by.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Most of the time, on most waters, for most species, I prefer to fish after two days of stable weather. That gives the fish a chance to settle down after a front goes through.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As we have all experienced, sometimes the fish really turn on just before a front goes through or just as it starts raining. But, once the front goes through many species shut off for a while.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Walleyes, white bass and a few other fish are sometimes most active and bite best when the weather is a bit sloppy. In fact the best place and time to fish for some fish is right on the windward shoreline when the wind has made a "mudline". Predators with good vision or sensitive lateral lines sometimes feed aggressively when their prey is tumbled and blinded in the wind driven waves and muddy water.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]All that being said, I prefer to fish when it is calm because most of my fishing is finesse fishing...light tackle and small jigs. It is difficult to maintain "touch" when my tube is blown by the wind or there is a bow in my line. When the wind comes up enough that I can't hold position or feel what is going on at the other end of my line, I am through fishing.[/#0000ff]

We got hit with the storm yesterday and Henry's Lake (much like Utah lake being very shallow) gets some life taking waves.
It got down right cold.
But made for a beauty of a sun set:
