Should Mantua and Newton be wakeless?
#1
Because of their size, especially Newton, I have always thought that these two should be wakeless. Most of the ski boats don't give a though to anyone else on the water and they are not only annoying but flat out dangerous sometimes. I just wondered what everyone thinks.

No they shouldn't be wakeless they should just be like Alamo lake in Arizona which doesn't let skiers ski on most of the lake. Fisherman know the proper distance to let your boat get on plane, water skiers just dont care they buzz me all the time at Mantua.

I wonder about the difficulties in banning certain groups of people, such as skiers and wakeboarders, so I thought wakeless wouldn't single out certain people just speed. If they can board while going wakeless I could live with it.

I think that 1/3 of each lake should be wakeless speeds. Give the skiers their share and we get ours. I like How Jordanelle has that big wakeless area in the rock cliff arm, It should have another one on the north end and maybe a couple smaller coves. All lakes should be like this.

They would have to charge a big fee to launch.

Someone would have to pay to enforce that rule.

I would like to see the North end of Deer Creek wakeless. But, they did make Wallsburg bay wakeless. Every little bit helps.

If you remember, Jordanelle was suppossed to be wakeless in the entire northern half. From the second cove where the trees are on the west side, straight across to the east side.
There was also suppossed to be a developed small boat launch on that end. The entire River arm was also supposed to be wakeless, the entire arm.

Government shafted us out of that.

Even just make it wakeless 500ft from shore in all areas, I think that would make everyone happy, and if the lake is only 1000ft wide then it's too small for skier's and wakeboarding anyway.

I second that. Small lakes like Newton just aren't big enough. On Mantua if they stayed away from the edges, 500 ft., it would be a good compromise.

I don't know if they would necessarily have to patrol it. Most people would obey it and for those that don't a phone call could inform the park ranger of a problem. The fine could cover the expense of him making a trip out there. Just my thought.

I agree completely with Newton. I was fishing for cats there years ago, and had a water skier come right into shore, and get tangled in 3 poles that were soaking bait. He kept saying, "I'm okay! I'm okay!" I wanted to make him not ok. haha. [frown]

So did anyone get up enough nerve to set the hook when they had a jerk on the end of their line. My float tube and 14' aluminum boat don't fare so well when they fly by. You have to stop fishing and concentrate on not capsizing for the first 4 or 5 waves. Plus, it always moves my anchor if I am using it.

Well he literally came in right at shore. He was about 3' from the tips of the rods, so the looks were a ways away. That would have been great though.

I wish they would have put in the couple of lakes they talked about a few years ago on the Almalga barrens area. Make them water ski only. Give them jumps, salom courses - what ever they want and then make Newton and a couple of others fisherman only.

YES YES YES, or at least make it 15-20 mph or slower.

And the lake is 554 acres so it is not very big at all. I mean hell I would even gladly pay a few dollars to launch there if it would get the power boats off.

What about rating the number of ski boats for newton by it size. 1 for every 500 acres. That would equal 0 according to my math. LOL[Wink]

I fished on a private lake like that in Palm Springs, which had some nice lmb. It had a long Island down the middle and all the traffic went the same direction. The island just ate up the wakes so it was always calm. I saw something like that being built up on the Bear River East of Tremonton. Does anyone know anything about it?

YEEEEES, wakeless! Ah but that will never happen. Okay, I'm cynical, I admit it.
