The purpose of this email is to notify California's saltwater sport fishermen of upcoming regulation changes, including seasonal openings and closures, bag and size limit changes, depth and gear restriction changes, etc.
Black Rockfish
The sport fishery for black rockfish (Sebastes melanops) will be closed from September 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004, from the Oregon border south to 40 degrees 10 minutes North latitude (near Cape Mendocino in Humboldt county), at all depths and to all methods of take. This is an in-season regulation change; click here for more information.
Depth Restrictions
From 36 degrees North latitude (near Lopez Point in Monterey county) to Point Conception (Santa Barbara county)
Rockfish (all species), lingcod*, cabezon, greenlings, California sheephead, ocean whitefish, California scorpionfish, and all other species of federally managed groundfish (except for sanddabs, which may be taken at depths and using gear specified in state and federal sport fishing regulations) may only be taken and/or possessed in waters less than 120 feet (20 fathoms) in depth from September 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004. This is an in-season regulation change; click here for more information.
*The sport fishery for lingcod will be closed from November 1, 2004, through December 31, 2004, in all waters, at all depths and to all methods of take.

From Point Conception (Santa Barbara county) to the Mexico Border
Rockfish (all species), lingcod*, cabezon, greenlings, California sheephead, ocean whitefish, and all other species of federally managed groundfish** (except for sanddabs, which may be taken at depths and using gear specified in the state and federal sport fishing regulations) may only be taken and/or possessed in waters less than 180 feet (30 fathoms) in depth from September 1, 2004 through October 31, 2004. The depth restriction will move back out to 360 feet (60 fathoms) for November and December. Depth restrictions within the Cowcod Conservation Areas remain unchanged. **The sport fishery for California scorpionfish is currently closed through October 31, 2004. When the fishery reopens on November 1 the depth restriction of 360 feet will be in effect.
