For any of you planning a trip out to the Basin, don't put Steinaker on your list of fishing destinations for now. As many know, the reservoir has been drained for dam repairs, but a small pool of water remained and fish were surviving. However, with little inflow, oxygen levels have been depleted and a substantial fish kill was observed last Monday 02/11/19. DWR cut several large holes in the ice to allow for fresh water/oxygen from slush on the ice to enter the main water body to hopefully save some fish. Time will tell, hope for the best!

To bad they couldn't take them down to pelican to live.
Hope that their efforts help.

Well the DWR actually did have a couple of salvage days where they were able to catch and move somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,300 bluegill and a few bass over to Pelican to get that fishery restarted. About a dozen anglers were gathered to do a salvage day when the problem was discovered. They hoped to have a few more salvage days, but looks like that won't happen now, darn it!
