Echo 10/13
#1
I had the day off today for Columbus Day. It's my daughter in law's birthday tomorrow and she wanted to go fishing. So I met my son and daughter-in-law at Echo at 8:00 a.m. There were already a few boats there, but just a handful. It was 33° when we launched. We started trolling right outside of the boat launch and hooked up our first rainbow just a few minutes later. We continued to troll out across the reservoir and continued to pick up fish every few minutes. We were stacking the downriggers and had the bottom ball set at 17 ft. The top line was only at 7 ft and we got almost all the fish on those top rods. We also long lined a rod off of each side pulling flicker shads and they also saw their share of action. We had a couple of surprises with catching a crappie and a perch. We trolled mostly Kokanee gear tipped with a Nightcrawler or chub meat. We ended up keeping our limits of rainbow trout. The bigger rainbows were between 15 and 18
in. We also caught a lot of smaller rainbows that we just threw back. The weather ended up being really nice and we were off the water by 11:00. The bottom picture was my take home for the morning.

We have tried for those elusive crappie there many times, congrats that you connected and you caught it on the same gear as you caught the trout? Sounds like a great trip Paul.

It is one of my favorite fall fishing destinations. Water is significantly lower than last year. Water was pretty stained, most likely from windy weather earlier in the week. But the fish didn't care and we had a good time.

We caught the crappie on a flicker shad, which was probably only running about 7-8ft deep. The perch was on koke gear at 17ft.
