Who works on Honda outboards along the Wasatch?
#1
Quick question for you guys.  My brother-in-law has a Honda 9hp outboard, and he swears there is only one place in SLC that works on Honda outboards.  I’ve gotta believe that that’s just not true.  Does anyone out there have a good recommendation?

And to go further into detail, the motor is shredding impellers.  It’s been looked over once, but I think this is the 4th it’s gone thru, and it doesn’t get used a ton.  Just doesn’t make sense to me.

[i]Something like that shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. Do you have a year & model number? Describe shredding, what does impeller look like? Have a pic of the impeller? I notice some folks at the launch sites like to start their motors while sitting on the trailer. Impellers are meant to have water to prevent damage. What does the
impeller housing look like?

Sounds to me the housing or plate has been overheated, then warped from the heat, and is shredding impellers from improper tolerances.
The good news is a new housing and plate are not terribly expensive.
Good luck!

Pinnacle Marine in SLC did the service on the engine back in 2022. I think this is the 2nd impeller since then. He did order a new housing along with the impeller. Here’s a photo of the model/serial number.

I had a 8hp Honda kicker. It was like pulling teeth to find someone to work on them. Even my good friend Lee (Lee's Marine in Hyrum) wouldn't touch it since he said Honda is very protective of their factory manuals, parts, etc. I found that Rogers Marine in Bountiful area is a Honda authorized repair place. They replaced a head gasket and did a great job. But it was really pricey. Over $600 about 90% labor. I'll never own another Honda. It ran well, but I didn't want to have to struggle with repairs in the future. I'm "Merc'ed-up" now and could not be happier.
