So, at last I am on vacation at my daughters in Putnam, Conn and took my tube to West Thompson Lake Park which is run by the US Army Corp of Engineers. Checked withthe Park Ranger for permission, "Nope, no swimming allowed". "??? but I'm wearing chest waders". Nope, no swimming allowed. I don't think I will let you in." Grrrrrr.
Next stop, Quaddick Pond State Park, They have a swimming beach and boat ramp, "WELCOME , have a nice day, don't catch them all!" Had a great time, didn't catch anything, but had a blast anyway. Defineatly need to start saving for a Fat Cat or NFO Escape so I can get up out of the water. This Bucks Bags Bullet rides very low but I'll live with it for now. I did get a few pictures, I will post them when I get home to NY as my daughter needs her laptop. I'm going fishing, bye!

[cool][#0000ff]Always good to get in the first few trips...to give you an idea of the reality of tubing. Once you have a feel for the mechanics you can focus on refinements and you will be better prepared to make equipment upgrades in the future. For now, enjoy what you have and learn to fish afloat.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Interesting development at the first lake. Back in the early days of tubing it was not uncommon to find lakes that would not allow "swimming". On one lake in Colorado I was told that I would have to stay inside the swimmers' area buoys...but that I could not use lures or fish hooks which might endanger swimmers. And that was at the end of October when there was not a swimmer in sight.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Now we have come full circle to the point that some waters in some states are off limits to tubers because they are deemed a hazard to boaters.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]A whole lot of anti-tuber ignorance still out there.[/#0000ff]

Wisconsin is better they allow tubers as long u have the life jacket with u and can do in statewide lakes....why can't the other states study how Wisconsin sets the rules....simple and easy?
Illinois is "muddy" on that....

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry to say but in most matters Wisconsin is not widely considered to be a trendsetter or a leader in progressive legislation. California is probably the most widely copied state in many matters...including regulations on fishing, boating and float tubing. And California has some of the most restrictive regulations on tubing you can imagine. The combination of high population density, heavily pressured fishing waters and the concern over invasive species (quagga mussels) has virtually eliminated many waters from the list of those useable by tubers...and even boaters.[/#0000ff]

About the only restrictions I have come across in Utah is some artificial flies or lures waters and as far as tubing...Little Dell is our drinking water. It is only open during day light hours and no swimming or pets. You can pontoon, or tube but must wear waders.

That is the biggest understatement of all time: "Wisconsin is not a leader in progressive legislation". You're not kidding, Pat. Hopefully, they'll throw the bums out of office before they inflict any more harm on Wisconsites. Ditto for Minnesota, Ohio, Michigan, etc.
As far as CA goes, you can tube but there are some reservoirs that don't permit water contact so therefore, no tubing. Kind of silly. I'm not sure about the invasive species thing. I know you cannot launch your boat unless it is dry and free of any contaminants (mussels). If anything is found, it must be washed down with hot water and possibly quarantined. Not sure about all lakes though. There is one lake, Diamond Valley Reservoir that will not permit tubes, sit-on-top kayaks or 2 stroke engines.
We have a serious problem in CA and elsewhere in the U.S. The environmentalists are trying to shut down ocean and freshwater fishing. They are very determined, powerful, sneaky and well-funded. For instance, Sunoco oil funded The Natural Resource Defense Council to the tune of 11 million dollars during one year alone in the early 2000's. What's up with that?? The NRDC was largely responsible for ramming through ocean closures in spite of protests up and down the state by recreational fishermen, landing owners, boater's groups, etc. I went to 2 of the meetings that were supposedly for public input (so-called stake holder's meetings) before they made their decisions. They already had their minds made up. The meetings were a farce. It is unbelievable what is going on here.
Now, the DFG are trying to make it so fish hatcheries will be required to have very expensive research studies performed that will essentially the hatcheries out of business. Guess what folks, no more plantings may become a reality.
They also want to insist that CA citizens must have buy a fishing license if they want to fish at a private, pay to fish lake. Many people won't pay to fish at a high priced private lake when they are forced to buy a license as well.

Well, I live in CA and I know that fishing is getting
very taught here.
I dont like that they are trying to shot down some
fishing spots BUT when you see a moran that had a
"good" day fishing and is taking home 30-40 crapies
or 15 bass......................
Or a "sport" fishing boat with 150 large dead tuna.....
.....makes you want to cry.
Just my 2c.
