fishing knots... question

Improved Clinch vs. Palomar Knot.

I know I have to use Palomar Knot with my braided because clinch just doesn't work with braided.

My question is this does Palomar knot work as good with mono or fluorocarbon line too?

Yes,
but do your self a favor, tie a quick knot in the tail peice of line near the polimer befor you cut off the extra line.

this will make sure your line dosnt come untied while attempting those hour long battles.

pollimer knots have come untied on me while batteling those huge alaskan kings and 50 pound carps.

The Polamar is a strong knot and can be used on all lines. Here is something Shaw Grisby taught me last fall on Lake Conroe, TX. As you tie the knot, take the loop that you made to pass the lure through and make sure that loop is set at the top of the knot (towards the reel)when tightening it up. This loop positioned at the top of the knot locks the knot in place and keeps it from slipping-it will never come untied.

I found this great site for fishing knots [url "http://www.netknots.com/html/fishing_knots.html"]here[/url]. I had to look up some new knot tying techniques after I lost a couple lures to my old fisherman's knot. The knots just came indone. It was a real bummer.

It's easier for me to tie the improved clinch so that is the one that I usually go with. They are both great knots but I have been tying the improved clinch for my whole life and that is my go to knot. My advice is the one that you are the most comfortable tying is the one you should go with.

That's the first knot I learned and I've stuck with it. I've just started tying other knots after a lifetime of the improved clinch. It is an easy and fairly effective knot.

You might check out the Berkley Braided Knot. In a recent issue of F&S or OL (I can't remember which one, I was reading it at the library), it was said to have a higher breaking point than the Palomar. I learned how to tie it, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I too have used the palomar knot with great success these past few years and haven't had one breakoff. But it does get hard feeding poly threw the eye of a small hook. Then it's back to the improved knot. Heres the berkley knot afore mentioned.

The Berkley Braid Knot has been extensively tested by the Berkley Research and Development staff. It is designed to deal with the special qualities of today's braided lines that can slip when tied with conventional knots.
Tying the Berkley Braid Knot
1. Run a double loop of line through the eye of the hook or lure. 2. Loop the end around the standing part of line eight times. Thread the double loop back between the eye and coils. 3. Tighten the knot with a steady pull. Trim the tag end to about 1/4 inch.

I only use the Trilene knot,figured you too since you like Trilene so much haha..I do one exta step to the knot!
Pauly's improved Trilene knot,I use it for Braid and super lines.
check it out the video, you just pass the tag end back through the big loop after the last step.

I use a variety of knots. My favorites are the uni and the simple clinch, but lately I've been using the Davey knot for line-to-hook or the non-slip mono knot with lures that need a looped connection for action.

Other specialty knots that get occasional use are the palomar, the perfection loop, dropper loop, and snell knot.

The no-slip mono loop knot seems to be a good one for me, paul. Not hard to tie and holds well in mono and fluoro.
