Ive been one of the lucky ones that FG has kind of taken under her wing so to speak.. when I first came on she found out that I was needing flies she sent me some right away.. she has been my "supplier" under certain circumstances ever since..
last year I slayed gills, perch, and a red bellied sun fish on her red and green chironomids and a great scud pattern she ties.. regretfully I lost both at the very end of the day but I can tell you from personal experience that what she ties lasts and even with as novice as I am catch fish.. one after the other after the other.. :-)
Id love to see the flies that you tie off of that hook...

I try to get under FG and Mojo influence as much as possible. I'm shooting in a national benchrest match the rest of this week; however, I hope to have a new batch of Chironomids tied-up next week and I'll post photos.
I'm aquainted with the AZG&F fisheries biologist that manages AZ's trout lakes. He is going to send me some serious information and photos on the types of Chironomids that inhabit the AZ stillwaters I fish. Hopefully, I can fashion some new patterns that will get close to the real deal.

the only one that you have sent me in the past but did not show was the scud you tie... that fly got so chewed up with fish hitting on it.. and I lost it at the end of the day.. . [crazy] now that irked me to no end.. [:/]

I dont tie as much as Id like to.. its usually a case of good intent that gets overridden by Mrs MacFly saying we other things to do.. [laugh]
I did tie up some wooly worms a couple of summers ago and have to tell you it was a blast catching fish on a fly I tied (first time I had used my own flies)..
I want to tie up some hoppers for this next trip this summer.. already have some small beetles tied up Im getting anxious to use.. but the flies I was telling you about were ones that FG sent me...

all I know is that it worked like a charm in that little stream in TN.. and that I lost it at the end of the day.. but I think the ones you sent me before were a whiteish/grey?? and you were using a new material for them.. kind of spongy?? and I believe it was wrapped around the hook instead of segemented like in this picture??

[quote flygoddess]I usually use Scud hooks although, a straight hook can be more realistic.
As of last summer, I did start to use the Tiemco 200R. Love that hook. Use it for allot of flies. I don't know about the thinness of the hook...have yet to have one break.

Many years ago when I was fishing the San Juan 15 to 20 times a year, I developed a double midge pupa pattern that I believe was tied on a Tiemco 200 [crazy] not 100% sure. It worked really well when the midges were hatching.
I've never considered an articulated version nor had I ever considered using a larger version of my old double midge for stillwaters. Darn you FG, you've got me thinking about new patterns [cool]
