AF white bass report
#1
Doitall5000 and I went to the AF harbor in his boat and swung around to where the river enters the lake. There were a dozen or so waders, a few boats, a pontoon and some bank tanglers all targeting white bass. They were hauling them in regularly. The waders were mostly in the clear water where the river enters but those in the murky water around there seemed to all be catching, too. It was fun to hear the little kids on a boat near us sing out every time they hooked one. Verdean was trying for walleye and I was going to try for a catfish. He immediately caught a white bass on a curly tail so I was set for bait. I also threw out a hook baited with worm under a bobber. No bass were interested in the worm nor were any cats or walleye coming out to play. Verdean was steadily catching bass on his chartreuse curly tail jig so I tied one on, a genuine Mister Twister, in place of the worm. First cast out I got a whitie. Whew, no skunk today. I proceeded to catch a few more. At first they seemed to hit occasionally on a slow, steady retrieve. It was slow catching that way so I started to jerk it a bit and that triggered the hits. Altogether I took home 20, Verdean having caught the majority of those. They were all between 7.5 and 8.5 inches except for one from an older generation which taped 11 inches, a real trophy [Smile]. As the evening came on we moved back into the harbor where we marked fish about 2.5' down in 4 fow. Nothing doing.

Water temperature where we were fishing was 57° and it was 63° in the harbor.

At least Verdean got to try out his new sunshade and sonar and I took home a year's supply of bait. It was a fun little outing.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.
