Re: [Jonzee] Huntington Res - Kipe - 12-18-2016

I was there 12/17 on foot and would not recommend it. Had to bust trail in waist high snow to get to the lake and it was a slush monster. Extremely tough and cold to get the tent stakes in the ice through all the snow and water. Fishing was good, but not good enough for the effort it took to get there. Fished in 10 FOW and it was clear enough you could site fish if you wanted to. A lot more fish cruising then biting. My biggest was 18 inches, goodluck.

How far of a hike is it from the parking lot to the ice(slush monster)? I haven't been there for years and was considering going there on Tuesday...... Would snow shoes help much? Thanks for all the info!

Not too far down the boat ramp, maybe 100 yards. Snow shoes would help. There is a layer of thin ice maybe an inch and then a gap of water before more ice. If that would freeze it wouldn't be too bad but at the time punching through every step really takes a lot out of you.
