New Jersey State Record Sheepshead caught - Hutch00 - 01-30-2004

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of
Fish and Wildlife has certified a new state record sheepshead that was
taken from Manahawkin Bay. Paul Lowe, a resident of Manahawkin, caught
the 17 pound, 3 ounce, sheepshead on September 17. It weighed 3 pounds,
2 ounces more than the previous record taken from Great Egg Inlet in
1995.

Lowe was bottom fishing with clams when he caught the record sheepshead
on 17-pound test line near the Causeway Bridge. The fish measured 27 ½
inches in length with a 24 ½-inch girth.

lol, he almost didnt have enough line test [sly]

I have caught a bunch of them bottom fishing in lakes st clair and erie and the dettroit river. tho I have never got one that big.

they get to 20 - 25 pounds up this way, so I am sure some one else will have the oppertunity to get another one a pound or two bigger.

thanks for the update [cool]

Still looking for a picture and yes the saltwater sheepshead does have some nasty teeth you don't want to lip them when landing they even look a little like the face of a sheep
