Bass below Walcott - Belasko - 08-18-2016
Went for a float below Walcott Tuesday. We had the river all to our selves and the bass were very agreeable. Used mr twister grubs, tube jigs and crawdad soft plastics. Took out above I-84. Total we landed two Carp and over sixty bass. Some with decent size. Overall it was a great day.

We take two rigs. Drop one off at the takeout then take the one with the boat up to the put in and do it that way. Fairly easy if you have three people at least.

. I'd like to come down there in Sept to try some new water and was going to bring a 16ft prop outboard. I could also use a drift boat with a small kicker motor. Which would be the better boat choice? I had assumed that section was bass boat water almost all the way to the dam. I plan on staying at the RVpark upstream of the highway.[signature]

Floating that stretch is getting real popular, especially with yaks. For props it gets pretty hairy above the interstate bridge, especially as they start dropping the flow as irrigation season winds down. Also some real shallow spots between the interstate and frenchmans island. Village of trees is a nice park. There is also one at the Heyburn bridge and a new city owned park at the bedke boat ramp. Several tournaments in sept just watch how the bass guys fish it. Big fish in Milner are 3 to 4 lbs, 15 lbs will get you a check, I have never saw a 5. Last year someone brought a largemouth to the scale. Walcott closes to boats on October 1st and usually so does the water flow below the dam. Yesterday the winning bag was 12 lbs. we caught a 150 fish for 7 lbs. I believe the fish are starting to head downriver for deepwater and food. Be happy to take you on a boat ride. Drycreekoutfitters baits were born in Milner.

I would think the drift boat with a small outboard/trolling motor would be good. As was mentioned, a lot of it is pretty shallow. No clue how the fishing is in September, I've only fished it during the hot days in July and August.
