Record Cutthroat. - hooknhunter - 06-21-2016

I was just looking at the fishing regs for record fish (catch and keep), and I found something I think is very curious.

Bonneville cutthroat is listed, and Rainbow/Cut Hybrid is listed, but there is no category for West Slope, Yellowstone, or Lahontan. Or even just a "Cutthroat" that might include any of those. I find that curious and I wonder why?

Thoughts?

Westslope is listed in C&R records.

Is it because the state record was a Bonneville? F&G might have it listed as a general category, and whatever species takes the record is what is recorded? Just my guess...

Hi there folks,
The state record fish program saw some big changes with the roll out of the new 2016 fishing rules. One of those changes were new records now open for the individual sub-species of cutthroat trout: Bonneville, Yellowstone, Westslope, and Lahontan. Prior to 2016, the record was just generic for "cutthroat". That record still stands as the current Bonneville Cutthroat record. The certified weight records are wide open for the other 3 subspecies. Catch/release records also apply in the same way.

Other changes:
-separate hook/line and archery records for non-game fish
-catch/release records for sturgeon/salmon/steelhead

Here's some links if you would like to find out more about the program:
