Nomenclature, handles, Nicknames - ifishutah - 01-07-2016
I'm just curious about the different names we all use for fish. Different species have different names in my world. So here's my list of the ones i've heard... (not all inclusive)
Fat fish in general: Footballs, pigs
small fish-dink, runt, tuna (it's a tuna!), rat
Trout (in general) -Slime rockets, slimers,
Planted trout-jelly beans, finnless freddies (Tube dude I believe), planters
Rainbow Trout-Starvation steelhead(tube dude), rainbows, bows,
Cutthroat Trout-cutties, Bonnies (bonneville cuts)
Tiger Trout-hybrids
Splake-???
Brook Trout- Brookies
Wipers-hybrids
Largemouth Bass-Green fish, Greenies, Big mouth, largies, gorillas, slaunch donkey (Zona), green pig, fat girl, Toad, beast, hog, bucketmouth, mossback,
Smallmouth Bass-smallies, brown bass, brownies, bronzebacks,
Lake Trout-Lakers, big a$$ fish, macks, mackinaw,
Northern Pike- slime rockets, logs, vacuums, hammer handles, Canadian scissor bill,
Tigermusky- tigers, leviathans, submarines,
Perch-perchzillas, perchlets,
Bluegill- gluegill (my boy, coudn't say "b's"), sunfish, frying pan,
White bass- Whities
Walleye- wallbanger, sow, hog, pike (ha) ,
Anyway, for all of you aspiring tv personalities, this could be extremely important.

Frankenfish = any hybrid fish which include tiger trout, wipers, splake, brake trout, triploid fish of any kind, etc.

I called planted rainbows "stockers," especially if they're under 10"and clearly in their first year since being planted.

big perch=jumbo
big crappie=slab, horse (hoss)
walleye=hotdog, eye
tigermusky= ski, toother
planter trout=slimer
big fish in general= donkey, toad
warm water fish in general (panfish, bass)= reptiles

My turn, but I'm doing the BFT special edition names.
1. Trout=slimmer
2. Striped bass=stripper
3. Wiper=whipper
4. Structure that impounds water=damn
5. Cuss word=dam
6. Reservoir in South Central Utah=Skoalfield, Schofield, Scolfield and more.
7. 100 fish day=12 guys pitched in their catch to reach that number.
There are more but I'm still at work and too tired to come up with more. [
