Salted chubs/shiners for tip ups. - WillCFish - 06-25-2015

Nows the time to fish and pickle them for winter.
Works great through the ice on tip ups or open water.

So how old do you think those chubs are, last years hatch maybe, or older?

The smaller ones yes. The bigger probably 2-3 year olds. The chubs keep well but the shines die fast if I want to use live bait I keep chubs.

I agree, and chubs, with their thicker skin, stay on the hook better.

I use them in the summer as well for stergeon and cats in the river. they will also work for open water inder a large bobber for pike

Your back, I was wondering what happened to you Dave. When you fish for pike with a bobber, are you fishing in shallow water or does the dead minnow just dangle off the hook, in the open water?

Dave gets on when he can get to the library. He is missed.
