Lake Mary Lakers - TT600 - 06-17-2015

Saw a 4-5 lb cruising the shoreline. It was not interested in my worm.

I knew that they were in there, I know there was a lot of worry that they would not survive to this year because it was so low (I guess?) good to know that they are in there Smile Really pretty area

Nice. Went up there last year right before the winter snap. Found this guy lurking around instead. (attached)

I suppose the fish I saw could have been a five lb brookie. Not likely though.

Nice. They're surely in there. The bigger bowl is deeper than the dam end. There's always going to be some water.

Are the minnows still out of control up there? I was thinking about going up soon.

When I was up there late fall it looked like they released some water from the dam the level was very LOW that's probably why I got a fish that day. My buddy that day had a GIANT hit and gone, gotta be some big lakers in there for sure.

did an overnighter up there on 6/5 - Katherine was still locked up and snowed in so we camped by Mary, not a single bite but saw a bunch of those minnows like usual

Yup Loah nailed it right on the head.

The bowl (even in the winter with the draw down into "2 separate lakes") was still 55 feet deep according to my depth finder. The dam usually sits at 10 feet during that draw down period.

I watched my twin EvilTyeDye catch a small one the 1st trip we ever took up there. Then he had one on the line a few weeks later that pulled around for 10 mins before returning the hook STRAIGHTENED!

I have caught a 16 inch brookie out of there and it didn't even pull drag.

There was a member on here named TroutCreek I think. I used to talk to him on the phone all the time about the lakers at Lake Mary. He tragically passed away at a young age of cancer or something, and I can guarantee a few secrets died with him. R.I.P. brother!!

Re: [mtncat1] Lake Mary Lakers - kj - 06-20-2015

I have not been up there for probably 35 years. I used to go up frequently in the late 70's. It was always an evening lake and we would catch a few brookies on a fly tied behind a bubble. Fished it a couple of times during the day light hours and early morning but never caught anything. I may have to give it a whirl again. Back in the late 70's early 80's, it was very low and almost divided into 2 lakes. The south bowl water line was what seemed like 50 feet above the water level. The lake never dropped low enough to become 2 separate bodies of water, but it got close.

Re: [LOAH] Lake Mary Lakers - downed_Phly - 06-23-2015

I was up there last summer and couldn't keep those stupid minnows (red sided shiners?) off my line. There was a pool at the bottom of the dam that probably had 10,000 minnows in it. But nothing else was biting up there, so at least I could say I caught something. [laugh]

All you need is a minnow trap and a few Ritz crackers and you'll fill a grocery sack with them.[fishon]

What I've found were redsides, suckers, and dace (I think).

The redsides work best in my opinion, if using whole. If you're tipping a jig with a tail or something, the suckers would be great.
