Hand or Foot electric trolling motor ? - lowe-185 - 03-11-2015

I'm in the market for a new electric trolling motor. I have always had the foot controlled motors, but now im thinking about getting one that is hand operated.
Either one will have the "gator" mount.
Anybody had one or the other and switched ?
What do you or don't you like about the hand operated ones ?
Thanks.

Get a Minn Kota Terrova and you will have both hand and foot control capabilities.

I love mine [Smile]

I have used all kinds of trolling motors. My terrova ipilot rocks... I can actually fish now instead of spending all day correcting for wind, boat wakes, etc.. it was worth every penny I spent on it. And now, I see that I can get an add on to where my terrova will work in conjunction with my Hummingbird Helix, and follow lake contour lines..

I have used both, currently using a hand control. I'd much rather use a foot control as it leaves you hands-free to fish but the hand control is much easier on a bad back and hip to operate all day. If physical limitations are not an issue I'd go with a foot control model.

so I got on youtube and watched some videos on the Terrova. Looks like they can do just about everything except bait your hook.
Then I got on the Minn Kota website [shocked]... and.... holy smokes. Is this motor really worth 1500.
Going to be a hard pill to swallow.

I have been using my 24v 80lb with my 19' bowrider for 3hrs now. I can almost get up on plane with it...

I have a minn kota 50lb with a foot control with a 18ft cord.like it. I use it up front while trolling to control the front end of the boat, us it up in the bow when I am cruising and pitching and in the back of the boat when someone else is up front. I wouldn't be with out it.

I have both for my Motorguide, and I use them both, depending on conditions, and what I am fishing for. I use the anchor feature more than any other, with the GPS built in, it generally holds me exactly where I punch the button.
