BearLakeFishGuy just posted that the run is estimated for around the 17th of this month. The DWR will be doing regular monitoring of the situation.

I heard today at work that the cisco run had started and there are 4 inches of ice at Cisco beach. I'll believe it when I hear it from at least one other source though. WH2

Anyone heard yet the date fo the cisco disco? Would be fun to see a big bunch of BFTer's up there sporting BFT stickers, and scoring some cisco.

Here is a clip out of Pugstone's lastest fishing report:

[#0000ff]The Cisco should start to show up around the 12-15 of Jan. and stay in until around the first week of Feb. It would be wise for you fisherman to get your limits on Cisco "Only Once"! The wardens will be watching very close and you're only allowed 30 "In Possession".[/#0000ff]

Ok, I'm sounding dumb right now but what is a cisco? Is it anything like smelting or going on a grunion run?

They are the forgae fish of choice by the big fish up in bear lake. Peaple catch, dip net them and keep them for bait for the big Macs and what not.

DWR info.

A diminutive fish found only in Bear Lake. The Bonneville cisco is a long, slender, pearly-silver fish that rarely grows beyond seven inches. It has a dusky blue back and a brassy band along its flanks at spawning time. The snout is sharply pointed. It is noted for its mid-winter spawning concentrations along a rocky beach on the east side of Bear Lake in mid-January where it is dip netted in large numbers. It is a prolific fish that is an important forage for the predatory species in Bear Lake.
