Strawberry 01/01 - Fish-Dog - 01-02-2004
I took my daughter to strawberry on the first. we fished at the ladders from about 7:45 to 11:00 only caught 2 fish and lost a couple. Both fish we caught were in the slot. There were only about 30 people at the ladders. Fishing was a lot slower than in the past. The best area was in the deeper water (34') directly out from the ladders. the shallower water on either side wasn't too good. most people we talked with hadn't done as well as we did. We got the most bites on a pink ratfinkee inside a clear rainbow sparkle tube jig with a wax worm.

It's sounding like the Berry won't be kind to us this year either[
] I was hoping that with the slot, people would be catching a lot more fish. At least you caught a couple. Was the wind howling up there yesterday?[signature]

I have never done really well at the ladders. We went there because my daughter wanted to try out her new skates and I thought that the wind might have blown off most of the snow.
As for the wind, it was dead calm until about 11:30 when a storm started into the area. We left just as the breeze started.

Hey fish-dog,
Congrats on catching the two fish that you caught. I took my two boys (8) and (6)
up to the Berry in New Year's eve, and got skunked. We had a lot of bites but
could'nt hook one. We used foxy jigs tipped with mealworms, and glow tube jigs
with a mealworm. Fished near the main marina among 10 or so other groups of
people. No one was having much luck. Looks like the fishin' is getting to be a
bigger challenge at the Berry. I think every fish has been caught at least once
and has gotten smart.
