I fished a new spot this weekend. I caught one small rainbow and 5 of these guys. Can any one tell me what they are. All were caught on flies retrieved just under the surface, casting to fish feeding on the surface.

Yup. Garrison reservoir out past delta and I've heard gunnison bend reservoir has them. If you didn't get them in either of those two lakes then I'd be interested where you got them. I suppose bucket biologists could have planted them anywhere by now.
I've caught them before in California and that definitely looks like them. A little smaller and not as well defined, but still looks exactly the same as the ones we caught.

Just curious were you fishing the sevier or a drainage from it? Ive heard of them being in the state and thanks for posting pics of your trip!! I dont want to fish for them but i must say thats the first time i couldn't have identified a fish from utah!! Im sure you dont want to let to many know so just pm me. And was that the biggest one you caught?

I'm gonna guess Minersville. Some bonehead has put them in there before. They don't do well there. They don't compete well with Chubs, Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Wipers and Cormorants.

All guesses as to where they came from are wrong. It is a very small lake and though they may not belong there I don't want to be the cause for them being wiped out. If someone is really interested where they came from you can PM me and promises to leave them there I will answer the first few requests that I get. However, the lake is so remote that they are probably safe anyway.

I was just interested, but don't need to know where. Have fun with them and enjoy your spot. Letting it out would let the lurkers loose on it and I'm sure they outnumber those of us who are active on this forum 100 to 1.
I'm sure there are a number of spots with those that we aren't aware of and time will reveal.

if it wasn't Preuss Lake (Garrison Reservoir), out by Baker, then you should contact the DWR and let them know what you caught. Fear of these fish being "wiped out" should be the last thing on your mind....

I know of a small stream that comes out of an abandoned mine and disappears into the ground with in a hundred yards.
They have been in that water for years.
In southern Utah.

This reservoir is so small that a cup full of rotenone would take care of the problem if there is a problem and there is no danger of them getting into any other body of water even with a 100 year storm.
