Heading to Lake Powell - idfisher - 05-15-2014 I know it's not in Idaho but i'm an Idaho fisherman so I figure I can ask this here ![]() I'm heading to lake powell (Utah/Arizona) the first week of June and from the looks of things i shouldn't have any problem catching stripers but what else should i be targeting? I'll be there for a family vacation on a house boat so i wont exactly have the best transportation but I'll be fishing off the deck and from shore. Any advice from anyone who has been? Or even post a question on the Utah board. Also there is a Lake Powell information board that is hosted by the fisheries biologist down there. Look up WaynesWords on Google for the url. It usually has the best and most recent info available.. Fish... at least there are bass, walleye, catfish, stripers, and I think crappie. Smallmouth, Largemouth, Crappie, Stripers, Walleye, Catfish, and Bluegill. If you beach it hit the shoreline and throw out and see what you come back with. At that time of the year it's hard not to catch fish on Lake Powell. Which end are you going too? [signature] Re: [Henries8] Heading to Lake Powell - idfisher - 05-15-2014 Thanks guys. We're starting out at Wahweap Marina and I really dont know how far up we're going. It isn't that easy to catch fish off the house boat. But we could always catch small channel cats off the back of the boat in the late afternoon and into the night. Great eating. And when you camp and tie your boat up you will get blue gill under and around your boat. The water will probably be pretty cold with snow runoff. I have always done well using 4" Gary Yamamoto shad shaped worms in a babby bass or green pumpkin color. Also, off the boat you can use hotdogs to catch catfish. Some can be fairly large and are great eating. Tough fishing for stripers off the boat in June. Look for steep rock walls with any cracks or other structure. Fishing with anchovies cut into 1/2" to 1" pieces along with some chumming can produce fast action. Search for waynesworld.com as mentioned before for a good place to get up to date information on fishing at Lake Powell. Good Luck!
