Automatic PFD? - atvaholic - 03-22-2014 Anyone have any experience with these: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/onyx-automatic-inflatable-pfd-0791846p.html#.UyzsKvldVAo I can get one at a good price. Always wanted them as they arent big and bulky. But I otherwise know nothing about them [signature] Re: [atvaholic] Automatic PFD? - pontoonman - 03-22-2014 I have a different brand of these inflatable PFD and have used them since they first came out, even before they were Coast Guard approved. Bass Pro runs a similar model for about $100 on sale. Advantages: -Can be partially inflated by mouth to make equivalent to foam PFD if you are expecting extra danger and it is still more comfortable because the shape comforms. -Most comfortable type, you won't even know it's there, so you're more likely to wear it. -Mobility is great - easier casting, turning, visiblity range. Used by deck hands on commercial boats for safety/mobility. -Can be packed in anywhere-remote locations w/o canister, airline travel, etc. -Manual mode allows use underwater for snorkling, getting out from overturned boat, etc. -Turns a person unconscious person face up automatically, unlike most fisherman's vest type. -Replacing canisters and rearming is easy. Recommendations: -Test all modes in a swim suit so you know they work, and what to expect. Get a few spare canisters. -Test partial inflation mode so know how much air needed. -Rinse and dry out canister thread area when it gets soaked there. -Test every 2 years at least with manual inflation mode to be sure it still works. Hope this helps.
