A cheap, beginner's ice fishing sonar - BearLakeFishGuy - 12-02-2013 So I have a friend who told me about this the other day and he swears by it. He fishes mainly at Bear Lake and mostly through the ice. For $60, you can't beat it, plus it runs on 4 - AAA batteries for 30 hours! It only reads to 99.9', but most people rarely fish deeper than that. I thought I'd share the link with you: Haweye Sonar Link Click Here [signature] Re: [BearLakeFishGuy] A cheap, beginner's ice fishing sonar - wiperhunter2 - 12-03-2013 Nice, I wonder how it compares to the one Harbor Freight sells: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=fishfinder [signature] Re: [BearLakeFishGuy] A cheap, beginner's ice fishing sonar - fishfighter91 - 12-03-2013 I don't know about the specific model in question here, but I can tell you that I had a similar model for a couple of years and had a decent amount of trouble with it. There were multiple times where it said there were fish in a given area and then I would spend hours trying everything in the book and not get a thing and then id move and have a location that didn't show fish and have non-stop action. I also had trouble with the transducer staying straight. It did, however do a good job of letting me know how deep the water was, and so that was the main reason I brought it out since my main fishin hole was the berry and I generally have more success targeting certain depths. I've talked to other people with the same unit and some had better and some had worse results so I really think that it's a toss up. Hard to argue with the price though. Mine finally gave up the ghost last year and so I've made the sacrifice and purchased a nicer (than the hawkeye) lowrance unit. Just waiting to test it out... [signature] |
