I don't recall anyone claiming to have ice fished this season, so I guess I'm going to jump up and claim first ice (for Idaho, anyway). Got to walk on 2 lakes last week. One was a bust, on the other, I caught one and lost one. Nothing great, but it's a start. [

The best ice I found was 3 to 3.5 inches. Some places we walked on were around 1.75 inches and you could see the ice sag and hear it crackling a lot. We didn't go in those areas. As you can see, we fished the shady part of the lake. The sunny parts were not fit for walking. I think we would have caught a lot more fish if we could've moved around and explored, but this was the only portion of the lake "safe" enough to walk on.

Good luck, and be safe. I think there is a good chance you can get on the ice there about now. Just exercise extreme caution, please. And remember that just because it seems safe where you are standing it may not be safe 10 feet away due to un-even ice thickness.

I will be safe , thanks . If I can get where I want fish I will tie a rope to my truck and around my waist . Then I will start drilling holes as I slowly work my way out . The fish are close to the bank , anyway they were before it froze .

Ya some guy like last month in utah ice fished on thin ice. Then TDT went last week on 2 " of solid ice then 3" of cloudy ice but I will be on the ice later today and hope for solid ice. Shall tie my rop to a dock or a tree close by and find some fish.
Nice job by the way for first on the ice in Idaho. I might have to make a trip up there some day when I got the money [laugh].
