NOT failing as a parent ;) - chickscanfish2 - 07-22-2013

[inline photo.PNG]So there are some cool moments for parents. Having a baby. Baby's 1st word. Child getting straight A's. Yada, yada, yada. I thought ALL those moments were the coolest, but this weekends moment trumped them ALL!!!

Myself, my husband & our 11 year old daughter did a little fishing this weekend. We all know that most fly fishing trips involving kids can be a true test of ones patience. But, NOT this weekend. My husband set up my daughters fly rod, gave her a few pointers & told her to go catch some fish. After about 20 minutes I heard the 2 most beatiful words to EVER leave her mouth........................ "FISH ON!!!!" I swear I heard angels sing. [Wink]

Incredible. By herself. No help from mom or dad. I can die happy.

Awesome!

My 12 year old daughter caught her first one on a fly rod on a trip to Panguitch before the 4th of July. Several weeks later I had a new rod and reel for her so I can have mine back [Wink]

Good job! No kids yet but I got my girlfriend on her first fish on the fly. I'm a proud boyfriend [Smile]

Way to go! I remember my sons first fish on the fly rod. He is now 12 and still enjoys it. My daughter doesn't like fly rods though so I will rig here up accordingly and then she goes to town as well.

Mine wasn't a fan either. We've been fishing her whole life. I think she was just being stubborn?! You know the whole "if my parents like it I DON'T" kind of thing?! [Wink]

I knew i'd have to time it right. I knew if there was A LOT of surface action & she could see the fish hit her fly, she'd love it.

Here is hoping for another April Vokey! Good job to all, and the visual can be a deal setter.

Its not just my daughter but my wife doesn't like it either. Mainly due to her wrists aren't what they should be and she is in lots of pain.[:/] I am glad my son likes it though.[cool]

That's awesome. Where's the fish pict? My 7 year old is dying to fly fish so we are doing the yarn thing.

Congrats on the cool story. What'd she catch and what'd she use?

That's very cool!! My 11 year old daughter also recently caught her first fish on a fly rod a few weeks ago on a trip to the Provo.

If he doesn't have the thumb in the mouth he drops the fish every time![laugh]
