Echo bay 06/22 - BillyH - 06-23-2013

Went up north late yesterday to take a shot at some striper action in the afternoon and for a night fish, on the water at 3pm off at 3 am. Pretty steady action for the most part, brought in about 40-50 school sized stripers. Great evening top water bite out of stewarts point. After sun down Anchored outside of a good cove just outside of echo in 60ft of water, kicked on the fishing lights and started the bait and wait. Had steady action for hours to include a 16 lb catfish! Thank god he hit my heavy rod, took almost 30 min to bring him in and talk about a strong fish, just about spooled my reel. I'll throw some pics up tomorrow.

Pictures posted - they dont do this fatty any justice though. To get an idea on length, my livewell is nearly 36" long.

On one of my rods i was running 10 lb test and ended up losing hooks a couple of times. I am usually pretty good with my drag but they gave me no time to react. There were a couple of big fish down there that were cleaning us up at will, nearly lost a pole at one point.

Anyone interested in giving it a go, we were anchored straight across from the new location of the launch ramp at the mouth of the cove directly to the south facing the ramp. It seemed like they were coming through in waves, about every 30 minutes we had good schools come in and we would nail a few. The ones we kept were mostly due to swallowing the hooks. i try not to overload my freezer.

What do you use for a fishing light? I'm thinking of picking one up for this weekend and wonder if you have a suggestion?

I have a couple of 36" bright green LED like tubes mounted under my pontoon. Not sure the brand though, they were on the boat when i bought it. Not sure if they had any impact on our fish numbers though. most of the fish we caught at night were off the bottom in 60 ft of water but we did see a lot on the finder come up to investigate.

They are similar to these.

What kind of cat is a DD?[/quote]

That would be Double Digit, referring to the weight.
