I use rattletraps at the Pentwater bridge around labor day for steelhead, has to be the sound because that water is the color of coffee with cream at that time of the year.
Pike fishing is pretty fair here in Gladwin though , got a monster that I've been after a couple of years , straitens my rapala hooks out each and every time he dives down into the weeds .

I've tried fishing the spillway a few times and never had luck. I tried for catfish using berkley power bait blood and dough and even preserved chicken livers for suckers and never got a bit. But I some new lures that did good on bass at metro so will have to try them out on the spillway and see if they work.

Metro has been a hot spot for bass carp and bowfin off lures lately

I made it out last week before the cold snap.

we managed a dozen cats, well yellow bullheads.

They were caught on crawler and leaf worm

Been a long time since I've fished that River. I do like hitting the spillways though , best spot everand you never know what your going to hook into . We have quite a few in my area and there is just about every kind of fish to catch. I've had browns, musky, northerns , walleye, LMB,SMB,pan fish, and in just the last few years bullheads. My favoriteset up to use is a split shot with a lead line 3' to 4' long, it lets whatever bait or fly I toss dance around in the currents.
