Grayling Fishing - phischen - 04-16-2013

Hey,
I've been wanting to catch a grayling for a while, but the only lakes with grayling I've found in Utah are in the Uintas. If anyone knows if Wasatch lakes have any grayling, that would be helpful.
Thanks

I think they used to stock them in Hardy. Pretty sure they tried them in Silver Lake above Silver Lake Flat also. Email DWR.

If you want to take a nice long 5-8 mile hike to fish lake loop or round lake. You can catch all the grayling you want when the snow is melting and ice is gone. Trust me I had days that I just easily lost count on stunted grayling [laugh]

I might hit lake hardy for once this summer and see that lake because the parking lot isn't far from me but the hike shall be fun [angelic]

I was checking stocking reports once, and saw that they stocked some in Rockport. Kinda weird that they stocked them in such a big reservoir. Who knows, maybe a 4 pound grayling is swimming around in there. I dream, I dream.

They didnt take at Hardy, dang it! Hell of a hike but almost always have it to yourself. I say try the Goldens in Hardy!

Didn't they plant grayling in Smith & Morehouse a couple of years ago?

You actually went up and checked? Man, that's a bummer. I had tentative intentions of checking into that someday. Are there any fish in there?

I hit Hardy every other year (good for the lungs)[Smile]
No fish in there right now, hoping the DWR will try again soon.

Brown and smallie feed! That was a total waste of resources.

Do you mean fish lake loop. If so its a nice hike just too slay those graylings. For sure I will be up there in beginning of June if the snow melt to the point when they go crazy.

I emailed the DNR today about this and a representative said that the only place that has been stocked in the last year is Smith and Morehouse. He also told me that they do not keep records of what fish are in what lakes???? I found that a little odd but whatever. [crazy]

Ha ha ha very true. That's why they stock them in the high mountain areas.

they dumped a ton in rockport a few eyars ago so you might have a chance. if your really that hard up you can take the drive to stateline res and fish the river above, lots of grayling in there

I have seen reports of grayling caught in S&M and I have a good friend that caught a grayling trolling a tiny spinner at S&M.

You will have to get through a lot of trout to get one though.

Seriously if you are willing to hike to Hardy then you should just hit the Fish Lake Loop.

When the DWR was worried about whirling disease at the hatchery above Kamas a few years back. They took all of the grayling they had and dumped them in Rockport. But they were all tiny 2.5 inches I believe. I seriously doubt that many will/did make to maturity.
