It is going to be close as to wheather the lake will top off or not. Plenty of airborn fattiesS[ ![]() PS. A few 15" class wipers have been caught. When do the smallmouth in there start to get active? [signature] Re: [LOAH] Minersville warming up. - happybob91 - 03-20-2013 I know I'm planning on going there this weekend bright and early, I am getting too excited for my own good [signature] Re: [happybob91] Minersville warming up. - castnshoot - 03-21-2013 "That's great news about the wiper. When do the smallmouth in there start to get active? " Hopefully about April 26.[ ![]() DWR is going to do a saine the first part of April. That might give alittle more insight on the Wipers, Browns, and Tigers. No dout it is in as good of shape right now as it has been in along time. If the snow that is in the mountains right now comes down all at once it might come close to getting full. I think they start taking water above and below around April 20th or so. Still need to pray for some spring rains and a good monsoon season. As far as a fishery, Minersville lives on the edge. So enjoy it while you can. Have wanted to get down there for a long time, but never have made it. Maybe this will be the year. Share some pics if ya got em!! [ ![]() [signature] Re: [Tangled_not] Minersville warming up. - PBH - 03-22-2013 tangled -- average size is: damn nice! This would be a good year to hit Minersville.... [signature] Re: [Tangled_not] Minersville warming up. - fishinfool - 03-22-2013 My Dad was there yesterday he lives in St George and has made multiple trips up the last two weeks. He said the average is around 18" and he caught a 22" fish yesterday and is tally for the day was 35 he is a fly fishing guy and releases everything he catches.1 cutbow and the rest Rainbows. The water is really low for this time of year and he says he doubts it is going to fill up. He also said there is allot of people up their and witnessed a few people get tickets for using bait? Remember this is a artificial fly and lure only lake. fnf[cool] [signature] Re: [fishinfool] Minersville warming up. - PBH - 03-22-2013 [quote fishinfool] The water is really low for this time of year and he says he doubts it is going to fill up. [/quote] Minersville usually does not fill unless the Beaver River drainage is above 100% for snow pack. It also is best (for the reservoir) if we have a cold spring, and a very quick "warm up" so that the majority of the snow melt comes all at once. This would make it difficult for the water (ab)users above the reservoir to divert all of it. When we have gradual warm ups the majority of the water coming down the Beaver never reaches the reservoir. We still have a chance to fill it, but my bet says it stays below full capacity this year. We're sitting at 91% total precipitation and 99% snow water equivalent. [signature] Re: [fishinfool] Minersville warming up. - Tangled_not - 03-23-2013 That's great news, thanks for the info. Sounds like the fish are doing well since they drained it. A bunch of 18"ers with the chance for bigger would make the long drive well worth it. Gotta plan ahead and get down there this spring. [signature] Re: [Tangled_not] Minersville warming up. - vegasback2id - 03-25-2013 Went up this last weekend...Very cold and somewhat slow fishing. Cold weather may have shut them down a little. But started to heat up by Sunday afternoon. Like said before average size 18-20. But some were very fat and in great shape. when you caught one it was well worth the wait. With the warmer weather coming in the fishing may pick up again [signature] Re: [vegasback2id] Minersville warming up. - Hookinup - 03-26-2013 Stopped by today on my way through to St George. I was surprised how many people were there. Caught one that was really really nice (24"+). My two buddies caught 3-4 each as well. Not too fast for us. Fish were nice when we caught em though.
