Protected Nongame Fish - mbowman - 02-21-2013
Just reading over the rules for 2013. Didn't end up fishing much last year and planning to remedy that this year. I see leatherside chub and bluehead sucker on the list of "Protected Nongame Fish". Is leatherside chub synonymous with Utah chub? I think I understand bluehead sucker to be mountain sucker, but I'm not sure that I've ever identified a sucker as a specific type, other than the Utah suckers I caught in spawn that were striped black down the side.
I don't usually kill suckers or chubs, though I've used them for cut-bait occasionally. I haven't always been as gentle with the release of suckers as I have been with trout in the past either. Just looking to see if I need to avoid using them for cut-bait, and I know you guys know your stuff. I was always under the impression that they were sort of pests, and quite a few fishin' folk I know around IF swear by leaving them on the bank when they catch them, so the rule kind of caught me off guard. I just want to make sure I'm interpreting it correctly.
