Island Park - Groundtrac - 02-13-2013
Took my wife's grandpa up to Island Park today. We didn't know what to find with the slush layer and snow. I am happy to report that the slush layer was completely frozen and there have been enough snowmobiles on the ice to make walking around very manageable. The snow was about 3 to 4 inches, then the frozen slush layer was about a foot, then about 12 to 15 inches of good ice under that. We didn't get a very early start, we got set up and actually fishing about 9:30. It was hot fishing almost immediately, with sizes all over the place. Caught around 6 little 10 inchers, including a brookie, which was cool. Then we caught a nice 20 inch rainbow followed by an 18 incher and 3 more in the 16 inch range. When the sun peeked out around 10:30 is when we had the most action. The clouds and light snow built back in and it slowed way down again. Around 11:30 or so it died completely but we needed to go anyway and we left around 12:30.
I was really happy to get into some nice fish at Island Park and plan on making another trip up very soon. We had the place to ourselves today and it didn't look like it was being fished much, probably because the slush layer has been so terrible. If you are thinking about heading up, it would be a good time to do it.

Most Kokanee are caught in front of the Dam , in the deeper water . It is that way all year long , soft and hard water . Curt G.

My son and I fished Island Park today and it was very slow. Only had 3 bites 2 fish hooked and landed none. First skunk for this ice fishing season. Maybe next trip will be better.

had a close friend fish it also today- landed 6 but all small. I believe he fished by the boat ramp east of the dam.
