Re: Elk Release - Ghost - 02-21-2002

We just released 50 more Elk at Royal Blue WMA. All are doing well with no fatalities as of yet. The overall herd appears to be thriving in their new home. Last spring we had the first calves to be born wild in TN since 1865. The sound of Bull's bugling was heard again last fall. Hopefully the TN herd will continue to thrive. They are absolutely awesome animals.

Famous last words: "Ah Bears are too big and fat to run fast"

Not for 5-6 years. That is if the herd continues to do well. Ghost

Famous last words: "Ah Bears are too big and fat to run fast"

Re: Elk Release - ssor - 03-04-2002

In S. E. OH they are trying to build a herd. In vinton county they brought in 3 about 4 years ago. "in a secured area" Last I herd there is now 7. I see them at the feeder behind a fence at least once a week as they are about 4 miles from me and I go past them going to town. Once they get to 30 they plan to take down the fence and hope they will contnue to increase. Looks like 20 years before any hunting will be alowed. I hope they increase the limit on deer before release. My car, truck and van show the over population consiquenses. I want the Elk to have plenty of room in the woods, or I will probably quit driving. the Elk are able to do alot more damage than a white tail deer, even at slow speeds.

Texas gulf cost fisher.

maybe they will bring in some more soon or at other locations.

There are a number of elk ranchers here in Michigan. who are raising them for re-population sales.

I think it was about 20 years here before we had our first hunt.

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T. Re: Elk Release - Ghost - 03-17-2002

Tennessee's Elk all come from Elk Island, Alberta, Canada. Elk ranching has become a major controversy, especially with CWD being found in wild game. It is becoming a serious threat. Ghost

Famous last words: "Ah Bears are too big and fat to run fast"
