White Clouds Lake Report - rodngun762 - 08-14-2012 Made the trek to a lake high in the white clouds... out of respect for locals and people who might view this as "their spot" I'm not going to name it(although I have previously). But I will give you pictures [ ![]() So I looked at the Idaho F&G website to find some good stocking histories and this lake had it, for golden and cutthroats. I hiked there last year without a fishing rod, only to be greeted by dozens of 12-16 inch trout cruising the shallows. I swore I would return. So my dad and I put the 4 wheelers in the pickups and headed up the East Fork. Turned onto a dirt road and started up to the access point. Once there it was a steep 1300 ft descent to the lake. I was up for it but my dad was not, so he just hung out with a book halfway down the steep scree slope. Once I got to the lake I had only about an hour to fish, I ended up catching 5 trout but only worked about 1/3 of the shoreline, and didn't even fish the two inlets that were there. I was using a spinning set up with a green roostertail lure. Saw a few fry follow the lure in, must have been from last year's planting. Also a lot of bites and followers. The hike back up was brutal... high elevation + sharp incline on a game trail. I was very winded. [signature] Re: [Chris_S] White Clouds Lake Report - rodngun762 - 08-15-2012 Fish eye look is from the GoPro camera, shot on the "wide" setting 170 degree POV. Comes in handy for making fish look bigger than they really are [ ![]() And it's cool to get the entire panorama in the shot with such beautiful landscape. Still an awesome place though. [signature] Re: [rodngun762] White Clouds Lake Report - FishinB80 - 08-16-2012 Straight Cutty. They are just finishing up spawning so they have all the pretty colors on them. [signature] Re: [rodngun762] White Clouds Lake Report - DeeCee - 08-17-2012 Probably a cutthroat. The cutts planted in the area are Westslope cutthroats and are colored a little differently that the Yellowstone cuts most of us see in southeastern Idaho. The Westslopes have some red on their bellies. DeeCee [signature] Re: [DeeCee] White Clouds Lake Report - rodngun762 - 08-18-2012 Thanks for the replies and ID help guys! [signature] |
